Ayurvedic way of a daily routine- Part 2

Ayurveda has discussed how we can take care of our health by following a proper day-to-day routine. Many diseases can be prevented when an individual follows a good daily routine. Ayurvedic Dinacharya incorporates the following components:

  1. Rise and shine
  2. Evacuation
  3. Mouth cleaning
  4. Anjana
  5. Nasya
  6. Oil pulling
  7. Massage
  8. Exercise
  9. Powder Massage
  10. Cleaning the body
  11. Right way of Eating food:

In our previous post, Ayurvedic way of a daily routine- Part 1, we have discussed the initial five components

  1. Rise and shine
  2. Evacuation
  3. Mouth cleaning
  4. Anjana
  5. Nasya

In this post, we will discuss the remaining components.

6. Oil-Pulling:

Gandusha also means oil pulling. In this oil, preferably, coconut oil is put in the mouth, and squishy movements are done. This procedure helps retain mouth hygiene, saliva health, and maintaining gum health.

7. Body Massage:

Abhyanga is a body massage that can be done after oil pulling and before a shower. Abhyanga helps with blood circulation and also works as an exfoliant. When targeted during abhyanga, different organs give different results like abhyanga of the head or head massage helps with health, hair health, etc

8. Exercise:

Vyayama means exercise, and it is done after abhyanga when muscles are warmed up. Vyayama, when done as per body type, helps maintain vitality and prevent many diseases can be done. Yoga is the best form of activity that can be done to activate the organ system and rejuvenate the cells

9. Powder massage:

Powder massage is done by rubbing herbal powder onto the body. It is very beneficial for skin disorders as it opens up skin pores, improves complexion, reduces fat, prevents skin eruptions, etc.

10. Cleaning the body:

Snana means shower; shower should be taken daily for optimum health. Taking a shower also works as hydrotherapy. The water temperature should be optimum; hot water should never be used to take a head shower as it causes eye and hair problems. Healthy people should not shower with hot water but should use cold to lukewarm water.

11. Right way of Eating food:

Bhojan vidhi means the art of eating food. Food should be consumed as per body composition and prevailing season. There should be an optimum gap between meals, and the next meal should not be consumed unless you digest your last meal. Food should not be consumed right after any vigorous physical activity, and a shower should not be taken immediately after taking meals.

These are all the Ayurvedic daily rituals. When an individual can follow these rituals, they attain the best health. In the present scenario of restlessness and stress, having a proper routine can help an individual to prevent many diseases. All the vital doshas and dhatus are also balanced by following the Ayurvedic practice.
